Thailand isn't just a destination, it's an experience that stays with you long after you've returned home. When you step foot in this Southeast Asian paradise, you're greeted with warm smiles, tantalising aromas, and landscapes that seem almost unreal in their beauty. No wonder Thailand ranks among the top international destinations for travellers worldwide!
On a whim, we booked our Thailand travel from India. It was our first international trip. We weren't planning for it or researching any international destinations. One night, randomly, I came across an itinerary and bam, we just spontaneously booked our first international trip a month away from the date.
And what a decision that turned out to be! From the vibrant streets of Phuket to the serene beaches of Krabi, our 8-day journey through Thailand was filled with unforgettable experiences. We danced at the iconic Full Moon Party, celebrated Songkran with locals, explored limestone caves, and indulged in delicious Thai cuisine. This blog is our attempt to share the magic of travelling in Thailand with you – complete with our detailed itinerary, must-have experiences, and important tips that will help you plan your own Thai adventure.

Our 8-Day Thailand Travel Itinerary (From India)
Day 1: Mumbai to Phuket
Our Thailand travel adventure began with an early morning flight from Mumbai to Phuket. After a smooth journey, we arrived at Phuket International Airport, feeling a mix of exhaustion and excitement. We quickly checked into our hotel, Best Western Patong Beach, and freshened up.
As evening approached, we headed to Patong Beach to witness our first Thai sunset. There's something magical about watching the sun dip below the horizon at a new destination – it feels like a proper welcome. The sky painted in hues of orange and pink, the gentle waves lapping at the shore, and the soft sea breeze – it was the perfect start to our journey.

As darkness fell, we ventured to the famous Bangla Street, the pulsating heart of Phuket's nightlife. The street came alive with neon lights, music blaring from various clubs, and street performers showcasing their talents. We explored the vibrant atmosphere, occasionally stopping to sip shots at different bars and sampling the vibe of this crazy street. It was sensory overload in the best possible way!
Day 2: Phi Phi Islands Tour
Our second day was dedicated to exploring the iconic Phi Phi Islands. After an early breakfast, we boarded a speedboat that would take us to these jewels of the Andaman Sea. The journey itself was breathtaking, with the vast blue ocean stretching endlessly around us.
Our first stop was Maya Bay, made famous by the Leonardo DiCaprio movie "The Beach." Despite its popularity, the bay has maintained its pristine beauty with crystal-clear waters and limestone cliffs towering overhead. We spent time capturing photographs of this postcard-perfect location.
Next, we visited Monkey Beach, home to playful macaques. We then moved on to Pileh Lagoon, a stunning emerald pool surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Here we hired a long-tail boat to take us towards the small beach. It was a surreal experience. We also got innumerable pictures on the famous long-tail boat. The waters were so clear that we could see fish swimming beneath us even from the boat. Others from our group also snorkelled and enjoyed the views of the corals.

Later, lunch was served at Phi Phi Don, the larger of the Phi Phi Islands. We enjoyed a delicious Thai buffet while soaking in the stunning views of the island. After lunch, we had free time to explore the island, shop for souvenirs, and simply relax on the beach.
The day ended with a return journey to Phuket, followed by more exploration of Bangla Street. This time, we decided to indulge in some club hopping, experiencing the unique atmosphere of different establishments. We visited Illuzion, one of the most famous clubs on Bangla Street, and it had an unmatched vibe! The energy of Phuket's nightlife is truly infectious!
Day 3: Phuket Old City & Yacht Cruise
Day three began with a tour of Phuket Old City, a charming area with well-preserved Sino-Portuguese architecture, colourful buildings, and quaint cafes. Walking through the streets felt like stepping back in time, with century-old shophouses now housing trendy boutiques and restaurants. We were also welcomed by sudden rains, making the whole experience even more exciting and cute! We roamed in ponchos, exploring this nugget.
Our cultural exploration continued with a visit to Wat Chalong Temple, the most important Buddhist temple in Phuket. The intricate designs, golden statues, and peaceful atmosphere provided a stark contrast to the bustling streets we had experienced earlier. We spent time observing locals offering prayers and learning about Buddhist traditions.

The highlight of the day was a yacht cruise to Coral Island. As we sailed away from the mainland, we were treated to panoramic views of Phuket's coastline. A traditional Thai lunch fare was waiting for us at the Coral Island Beach Club, and it was one of the best lunches we had on this trip! A perfect setting with the ocean as our backdrop. We spent the afternoon lounging on the beach and simply soaking in the tropical paradise vibes. Later, we halted at a designated region for water activities such as snorkelling, swimming, kayaking, etc. A water slide was inflated and hung from our yacht to add to the adventure! It was so wonderful to have these experiences!
Day 4: Phuket to Koh Samui & Full Moon Party
Our fourth day marked a transition from Phuket to Koh Samui. After checking out of our hotel, we headed to Donsak Ferry Terminal to catch a ferry to Koh Samui. The journey was long but comfortable, offering stunning views of the Gulf of Thailand.
We arrived in Koh Samui by evening and checked into our accommodation, OZO Chaweng Beach Resort. After a quick refresh, we embarked on another adventure – the legendary Full Moon Party at Haad Rin beach on neighbouring Koh Phangan island.
A short ferry ride took us to Koh Phangan, and as we approached Haad Rin, we could already hear the pulsating music and see the beach illuminated with thousands of lights. The Full Moon Party was everything we had heard about and more – a massive beach celebration with multiple stages playing different music genres, fire shows, body painting stations, and thousands of revellers from around the world.

We danced under the full moon, made friends with fellow travellers, and experienced the unique atmosphere that has made this party world-famous. It was an exhilarating night, and we returned to our hotel in Koh Samui as the sun began to rise.
Day 5: Songkran Festival in Koh Samui
We woke up late on day five, still recovering from the previous night's festivities. But there was no time to rest – it was Songkran, the Thai New Year, and the streets were already alive with celebrations.
Songkran is essentially the world's biggest water fight, and everyone participates – locals and tourists alike. Armed with water guns (purchased from a local seller), we ventured onto the streets and immediately became part of the joyous chaos. People of all ages were drenched in water, their faces marked with white paste, laughing and enjoying the collective spirit of the festival.

We spent hours engaging in friendly water battles with locals, who seemed particularly delighted to drench foreign tourists, sometimes with ice-cold water! The entire island had transformed into a massive water playground, with pickup trucks carrying large containers of water roaming the streets, ready to soak unsuspecting pedestrians. We also joined a foam party happening at a pool. It was a crazy experience.
In the evening, we went to Ark Beach Club, where the celebrations continued with DJs, fire shows, a pool party, and so much more! The energy was infectious, and we danced the night away, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Day 6: Koh Samui to Krabi
On day six, we bid farewell to Koh Samui as we took a ferry back to Donsak Pier and then headed to Krabi. The journey was long but scenic, taking us through diverse landscapes of southern Thailand.
We arrived in Krabi by evening and checked into Centara Life Phu Pano. Despite the tiredness from travelling, we decided to explore the Ao Nang Night Market. The market was a sensory feast – the aroma of freshly cooked Thai street food, the sound of local musicians performing, and stalls displaying everything from handcrafted souvenirs to trendy clothing.
We spent the evening shopping, sampling local delicacies, and absorbing the laid-back atmosphere of Krabi. It was a perfect introduction to this more relaxed part of Thailand.
Day 7: Four Island Tour
Our seventh day was dedicated to exploring the stunning islands and beaches around Krabi. We booked the popular Four Island Tour, which took us to some of the most picturesque spots in the region.
The tour began with a visit to Tup Island, known for its sandbar that connects it to the neighbouring island during low tide. Walking along this natural pathway with water on both sides was a surreal experience.

Next was Chicken Island, named for its peculiar rock formation that resembles a chicken's head. The waters around the island were perfect for snorkelling, with abundant marine life and clear visibility.
The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly Railay Beach and its hidden lagoon. Accessible only by boat, Railay is famous for its towering limestone cliffs and stunning beaches. We hiked through dense jungle and scrambled up rocky paths to reach the emerald lagoon nestled within the cliffs. The challenging journey was worth every drop of sweat – the lagoon was like a natural infinity pool with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
We also explored the limestone caves at Railay, marvelling at the natural formations that have been shaped over thousands of years. The day ended with a leisurely boat ride back to Ao Nang.
For our last night in Thailand, we returned to the beach market, indulging in some last-minute souvenir shopping and treating ourselves to traditional Thai foot massages – the perfect way to soothe our tired feet after days of exploration.
Day 8: Krabi to Mumbai
Our final day in Thailand was bittersweet. After a leisurely breakfast at our hotel, we packed our bags, now filled with souvenirs and memories. We took one last walk along the beach and had a Thai meal, trying to imprint the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of Thailand in our minds.
Soon, it was time to head to Krabi International Airport for our flight back to Mumbai. As our plane took off, we closed our eyes and thought about the stunning landscape below – the limestone karsts, blue waters, and lush greenery that had been our playground for the past week.
Our first international trip had come to an end, but Thailand had left an indelible mark on our hearts. We returned home with not just photographs and souvenirs, but with a newfound love for exploration and a promise to return to this beautiful country again someday, and slow travel here for at least a month.
Must-Have Experiences in Thailand
Based on our journey, here are some experiences that should definitely be on your Thailand travel bucket list:
1. Full Moon Party at Ko Phangan
There's nothing quite like dancing on a beach under the full moon with thousands of fellow travellers from around the world. The Full Moon Party is a rite of passage for anyone visiting Thailand, and it lives up to the hype. Just remember to book your accommodation well in advance, as places fill up quickly during full moon dates.
2. Songkran Festival
If your travel dates coincide with the Thai New Year (usually mid-April), consider yourself lucky! Songkran is the world's biggest water fight, and it's an experience like no other. Don't expect to stay dry – embrace the chaos and join in the fun. Remember to keep your valuables in waterproof bags!
3. Swimming at Railay Lagoon
The hike to Railay Lagoon is challenging, with steep climbs and muddy paths, but the reward is worth every effort. The emerald-green lagoon nestled within towering limestone cliffs feels like a secret paradise. Go early to avoid crowds and bring appropriate footwear for the hike.

4. Yacht Cruise Party
There's something incredibly luxurious about sipping cocktails on a yacht while cruising through crystal-clear waters. Many operators offer yacht trips with music, food, and stops at various islands for swimming and snorkelling. It's a splurge worth making!

5. Thai Massages
No Thailand travel trip is complete without indulging in their world-famous massages. Whether it's a traditional Thai massage, an oil massage, or a foot massage, the skilled therapists will work out all the tension from your travel-weary body. The best part? They're incredibly affordable.
6. Limestone Caves Exploration at Railay
The limestone caves at Railay offer a glimpse into nature's architectural prowess. With stalactites hanging from the ceiling and unique rock formations shaped over centuries, these caves are a testament to the geological wonders of the region.
7. Club Hopping at Bangla Street
Phuket's Bangla Street comes alive at night with numerous clubs and bars offering different music and vibes. From rooftop establishments with panoramic views to underground clubs with pulsating beats, there's something for every nightlife enthusiast.

8. Island Tours
Thailand's islands are its crown jewels, and taking guided tours is the best way to explore them. Whether it's the Phi Phi Islands near Phuket or the Four Island Tour in Krabi, these excursions offer a perfect mix of snorkelling, swimming, and beach relaxation.
Important Things to Know Before Travelling to Thailand from India
1. Currency Exchange
The Thai currency is Baht (THB). While places like 7/11 accept credit cards, having cash is essential for street food, local markets, islands, and smaller establishments. We had carried Baht from India itself and had one forex card. You can use platforms like BookMyForex to get your currency home delivered; however, always check on the delivery areas, as we faced an issue while getting our currency. We then did it from a local vendor. ATMs are widely available, but they charge a transaction fee, so it's advisable not to rely on them unless necessary.
2. SIM and Data
Staying connected is crucial, especially for navigation and translations. We purchased a tourist eSIM from Klook at just Rs. 579/- and activated the eSIM before boarding our flight. This gave us a 10-day unlimited data plan as well as a local number. It started working just fine as soon as we landed in Phuket. The network coverage was excellent throughout our journey, even on the islands. This was the best decision as we found the other plans at the airport quite expensive, comparatively.
3. Thailand Digital Arrival Card
Starting from May 1st, Thailand has implemented a mandatory Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system. This replaces the traditional paper forms and must be completed online before your arrival. The process is straightforward – you enter your personal and flight details, and receive a QR code that immigration officers will scan upon your arrival.
4. What to Shop for in Thailand
Thailand is a shopper's paradise with something for every budget. Here's what we recommend according to locations we visited:
Phuket: Thai silk products, handcrafted jewellery, and beachwear. The weekend markets are perfect for finding unique souvenirs.
Koh Samui: Handmade coconut oil products, local artwork, and island-themed accessories. Don't miss the walking street markets for the best finds.
Krabi: Handcrafted wooden items, batik clothing, and pearl jewellery. The night markets in Ao Nang offer a good variety at reasonable prices.

What To Shop? Our Must Buy Picks!
Hong Thai Inhalers: The one thing you must buy and get back home is the Hong Thai Inhaler. It's super effective and something that the locals swear by! We bought a dozen to share with friends back home. Trust us, you need these!
Skin Care and Beauty Products: 7/11 and Watson's are the best places to buy some of the best skin care and beauty products. There's just so much, you'll be spoilt for choice. We brought Vaseline's Gluta Hya products, some hair masks, face masks, sunscreen, baby products and more.
Instant Noodles/Ramen: Again, available in so much variety, you won't know what to get. Just buy a bunch and you'll be so happy trying them back home.
Chocolates: Get the fruit chews, especially the mango ones! So so good.
Thai spices, sauces, and pastes: If you wish to cook some Thai delicacies, get these and you'll thank us later.
Soaps and candles: You'll find such a variety in these. Get cute soaps, diffuser sets in different aromas and more as souvenirs for loved ones.
Personalised Passport Holders: You'll find many shops across Thailand making these personalised passport holders, with your name and a choice of charm in as little as 70 Baht, which is under 200 rupees.
5. Where to Shop in Thailand
Phuket: Jungceylon Shopping Mall in Patong for branded items, Phuket Weekend Market for local goods, and Bangla Road for quirky souvenirs.
Koh Samui: Central Festival for high-end shopping, Fisherman's Village Walking Street for boutique items, and Chaweng Night Market for bargains.
Krabi: Ao Nang Center Point for convenience shopping, Krabi Town Walking Street for authentic local products, and Ao Nang Night Market for food and souvenirs.
6. What to Eat in Thailand and Where
Thai cuisine is a delightful assault on the senses, with its perfect balance of sweet, sour, spicy, and savoury flavours. Here are some must-tries:
Street Food: Pad Thai (stir-fried noodles), Som Tam (papaya salad), and Mango Sticky Rice are ubiquitous and delicious. In Phuket, the food stalls near Bangla Road offer authentic flavours at affordable prices. In Krabi, the Thai pancakes are a must-have. They come in various flavour combinations like Nutella, mango, banana, and more.

Restaurants: We particularly enjoyed the Thai food at Eurasian Restaurant on Bangla Street and Dang Restaurant near Bangla Street, in Phuket. You could also enjoy having a beer along with some authentic seafood at smaller bar establishments such as Tum Bar, opposite Bangla Street. In Koh Samui, there are so many establishments. Head to Coffee Club for that speciality Thai coffee, try Korean delicacies at Gangnam Chicken. For a full experience of nightlife, sheesha, fire shows and great food, visit the ARKBar. In Krabi, the restaurants along the Ao Nang beach are all good. We tried some Indian food at Amritsar at the Ao Nang Night Market. Thai food at Green Curry is also recommended. This is located opposite the beach, so you can eat food while watching the waves.

Don't miss trying the various fruit shakes available everywhere – the tropical fruits in Thailand are incredibly fresh and flavorful. Pineapple was our favourite, the freshest and sweetest we've ever had!
7. Where to Stay in Thailand
Our accommodations played a significant role in enhancing our Thailand experience. Here's where we stayed:
Phuket: Best Western Patong Beach offered comfortable rooms, an amazing rooftop pool with panoramic views, and a prime location just a short walk from Patong Beach and Bangla Street. Perfect for those who want to be in the heart of the action.
Koh Samui: OZO Chaweng Beach Resort was a beachfront property with modern amenities, a stunning pool, and direct access to Chaweng Beach. The breakfast spread was impressive, and the staff were incredibly helpful.
Krabi: Centara Life Phu Pano provided excellent value with its stylish rooms, infinity pool, and attentive service. While not on the beach, they offered a free shuttle to Ao Nang Beach, which was just a few minutes away.

8. All About 7/11 in Thailand
7/11 convenience stores are everywhere in Thailand and became our go-to spots throughout the trip. Here's why they're so valuable for travellers:
They're open 24/7, making them perfect for late-night snack runs or early morning coffee before tours.
They sell everything from toiletries and medicines to SIM cards and power banks.
During Songkran, they stock up on water guns and waterproof pouches.
The variety of ready-to-eat meals and Thai snacks is impressive – try the toasted sandwiches, their amazing coffees and shakes, and the various flavours of potato chips that aren't available in India.
Their air conditioning provides a welcome respite from Thailand's heat!

Final Thoughts on Thailand Travel
Our spontaneous decision to travel in Thailand turned out to be one of the best travel choices we've made in recent times. From the vibrant nightlife of Phuket to the laid-back beaches of Krabi and the perfect blend of tradition and modernity in Koh Samui, Thailand offered diverse experiences that catered to all our travel desires.
The Thailand travel cost was reasonable, especially considering the experiences we had. The Thailand travel visa requirements were straightforward – Indian passport holders have a 'no-visa' requirement. But you'll need a TDAC from 1st May, 2025 onwards. Apply for it directly from here.
For those planning their Thailand travel from India, direct flights operate from major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore to Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi. Convenient domestic connections to other Thailand travel places are also easy to find and book.

When it comes to Thailand travel best places, it really depends on what you're looking for. Beach lovers should head to the islands, culture enthusiasts will enjoy the northern regions like Chiang Mai, while those seeking a mix of everything will find Bangkok fascinating. We were excited about the Islands and hence skipped Bangkok entirely.
Our Thailand travel package by Party Passport covered the southern region, but there's so much more to explore on future trips. The land of smiles truly lives up to its name – the warmth of its people, the diversity of experiences, and the stunning natural beauty make Thailand a destination that we can't wait to revisit.
